Electric Skateboard and Water:
What to do if it gets submerged?
The fateful downpour, riding through a puddle, or taking a big splash near a stream. If you ride all year round, you've probably experienced one of these mishaps. Here's how to react.
Why water and electric skateboards don't mix well
- Electronic components: controller, BMS, lithium battery are more or less sensitive to water depending on the design. Waterproofing certifications are an expense often avoided by brands.
- Bamboo deck: water can delaminate the layers if the glue is poor quality, causing swelling, warping, or breakage.
- Trucks and screws: can gradually rust.
- Bearings: seize up, reducing free-roll performance and your range.
- Grip: can become smooth and lose its abrasive quality.
A design built to resist
Evo-Spirit battery packs are waterproof, with the BMS integrated to protect it. The controller, depending on the generation, is encased in protective silicone. We continuously evolve our skateboards to make them even more waterproof.
Our decks are made of multiple layers of premium bamboo and the glue is carefully selected. No risk of delamination or warping.
What to do depending on the level of exposure
💧 Superficial contact
A few drops of rain or riding through a small puddle: quickly wipe down your board and leave it in a dry environment at room temperature. Evo-Spirit skateboards are designed to resist water splashes.
🌧️ Soaked skateboard
After a heavy downpour: switch off your skateboard as soon as possible. Lay it on its side on two wheels to allow the water to drain. Place it in a dry, warm room, near a radiator or in the sun.
🌊 Total immersion
Act fast. If your skateboard refuses to switch off, disassemble it to manually disconnect the battery. Separate the controller and the battery from the board. Dry with a hairdryer at a reasonable distance. In extreme cases, let it rest for a few days in rice or on a radiator. In our experience, there's a good chance of reviving your skateboard by following these instructions.
Despite all that, it won't restart?
If your skateboard still isn't working, it's often possible to replace the faulty component. Our skateboards are designed to be easily repairable with standard replacement parts that you can install yourself in a few minutes. This type of damage is not covered by the warranty. We sell skateboards, not submarines!
