Electric Skateboards and Water:
What to do if it gets submerged?
The inevitable downpour, riding through a puddle, or taking a big splash near a stream. If you ride all year round, you've certainly experienced one of these mishaps. Here's what to do.
Why water and electric skateboards don't mix well
- Electronic components: controller, BMS, lithium battery are more or less sensitive to water depending on the design. Waterproofing certifications are a cost that brands often avoid.
- Bamboo deck: water can delaminate the layers if the glue is of poor quality, causing swelling, warping, or breakage.
- Trucks and hardware: can gradually rust.
- Bearings: seize up, reducing the joy of coasting and range.
- Grip: can become smooth and lose its abrasive quality.
A design built to resist
Evo-Spirit battery packs are waterproof, with the BMS integrated to protect it. The controller, depending on the generation, is encased in protective silicone. We are continuously improving our skateboards to make them even more waterproof.
The decks are made of multiple layers of premium bamboo, and the glue is carefully selected. There's no risk of delamination or warping.
What to do depending on the level of exposure
💧 Superficial contact
A few drops of rain or riding through a small puddle: wipe the board briefly and leave it in a dry environment at room temperature. Evo-Spirit skateboards are designed to withstand water splashes.
🌧️ Soaked skateboard
After a heavy downpour: turn off the skateboard as soon as possible. Stand it on its side, resting on two wheels, to allow water to drain. Place it in a dry, warm room, near a radiator or in the sun.
🌊 Total immersion
Act fast. If the skateboard refuses to turn off, disassemble it to manually disconnect the battery. Separate the controller and the battery from the board. Dry with a hairdryer from a reasonable distance. In extreme cases, let it rest for a few days in rice or on a radiator. In our experience, there's a good chance you can revive your skateboard by following these instructions.
Still won't restart?
If your skateboard still isn't working, it's often possible to replace the faulty component. Our skateboards are designed to be easily repairable with standard component swaps that you can do yourself in a few minutes. This type of damage is not covered by the warranty. We sell skateboards, not submarines!
