Discover the jargon of electric skateboarding, from B.M.S. to carving, to master the art of drifting and optimise your riding experience.
The Electric Skateboard
Lexicon
Essential components, technical terms, rider jargon. Everything you need to know to speak the language of electric skateboarding.
From B.M.S. to Cruiser
B.M.S.
Battery Management System. The brain of the battery. This circuit regulates its parameters to ensure longevity and safety during charging and use.
Baseplate
The part at the base of the truck that screws to the deck.
Battery
Composed of lithium cells, it's your fuel. Its quality determines your range and safety.
Belt Drive Motor
External motor that drives a belt, unlike a hub motor. This is the system used in our Switcher range.
Bushings
Rubber grommets in the truck. They ensure articulation between the baseplate and the axle, offering resistance and return to center.
Camber
The curvature of a deck along its length. A deck with camber is bowed upwards.
Carving
Like skiing or snowboarding: descending slopes by making turns, prioritising grip over sliding.
Charger
Allows you to recharge the battery. Different power levels in amperage: 2A standard, 4A fast (charges twice as quickly).
Concave
Curvature across the width of the deck. A concave deck is slightly hollow in its centre, raised at the edges.
Controller (E.S.C.)
The "motherboard" of your electric skateboard. It manages all the board's functions.
Belt
Allows the wheel pulley to be driven by the motor. Ours are selected for the longevity of our skates.
Cruiser
A small board ideal for cruising around. The name comes from the action of "cruising" or riding casually.

From Deck to Hub Motor
Deck
The board itself, without the trucks and wheels.
Drift
A turn involving a slide.
Duro
Hardness of the rubber in the wheels or bushings. The higher the number, the harder the rubber.
Eskate / E-sk8
E-skate, E-skateboard, Esk8, E-sk8, Electric skate: all the ways to name an electric skateboard!
Goofy
A stance with the left foot at the back of the skate.
Grip / Griptape
Abrasive paper glued to the top surface of the deck. Ensures a secure footing and better grip.
Hanger
The part of the truck that surrounds the axle.
Hook
Accessory that holds the front foot on the board, offering more support in turns.
Hub Motor
Motor integrated directly into the wheel. This is the principle of our Curve range, offering a longboard effect with a true freewheel.

From Kicktail to Wobble
Kicktail
The raised part at the end of a deck.
Kingpin
The main bolt that holds the truck's components together, passing through the bushings. It can be double: double kingpin.
Nose
The front part of the skateboard.
Pads (Risers)
Rubber elements between the trucks and the deck. They raise the board and reduce vibrations.
Regular
A stance with the right foot at the back of the skate.
Rider
That's you! The one who rides electric skateboards. To join the Evo-Spirit team, ask to join the group.
Rocker
Downward curve of the deck along its length.
Shape
The shape of the board in all its dimensions.
Slide
A controlled skid.
Strap / Footstrap
Straps that secure your feet to the board. Fixed or adjustable with Velcro or ratchets.
Tail
The rear part of the skateboard.
Topmount
Traditional mounting with the trucks fixed under the deck.
Trucks
The two T-shaped metal assemblies that mount to the underside of the deck and hold the wheels.
Wheelbite
When the wheel touches the deck during a turn. Often due to a poorly assembled or adjusted skate.
Wheelbase
The distance separating the inner mounting holes for the trucks.
Wobble (Speed Wobbles)
An oscillatory phenomenon at high speed that can lead to loss of control.
