Electric Skateboards in Estonia
Regulations 2026
In Estonia, electric skateboard regulations remain unclear. Here's what we know and our advice for riding safely.
🧭 Official Status
Estonia has recently strengthened its law on electric scooters, but electric skateboards are not yet mentioned.
In practice, they are often treated as scooters by tolerance, without official recognition.
⚙️ Legal Requirements
Top speed: 25 km/h.
Helmet is mandatory for those under 16 (recommended for all).
Front white and rear red lights + visible reflectors.
Blood alcohol limit: ≤ 0.5 ‰.
Bike lanes: mandatory.
Sidewalks: allowed only at reduced speed, with priority given to pedestrians.
Roadway: possible on the far right if no bike lane is available.
Pedestrian crossings: you must get off your skateboard to cross.
📋 What About E-Skates?
❌ Not mentioned in the law → no clear status.
Authorities may:
tolerate them on bike lanes or sidewalks,
or consider them unauthorized on public roads.
Everything therefore depends on local interpretation.
📋 📌 Rider Tips
Stay under 25 km/h and ride with full equipment (lighting, protection).
Wear a helmet even if you are over 16.
Avoid crowded sidewalks.
If in doubt, opt for private paths or areas.
Third-party liability insurance is recommended.
L'essentiel
In Estonia, regulations are clear for electric scooters but unclear for e-skates.
They are often tolerated if they respect the same limits (25 km/h, lights, caution), but without legal warranty.
👉 The watchword: ride calmly, be well-equipped, and respect pedestrians.
