Electric Skateboarding in Germany
Regulations 2026
In Germany, electric skateboards are currently not permitted on public roads. Here's what the law says.
📋 🚫 Public Road Ban
Germany remains one of the strictest countries in Europe regarding e-skates.
Local legislation requires that any motorised vehicle used on the road must be equipped with handlebars and meet precise safety standards (brakes, indicators, lights, licence plate, insurance). As a result, electric skateboards cannot be approved for road use.
🚧 Where to Ride
👉 Exclusively on private land.
Riding on public roads is prohibited, even on cycle paths. Authorities enforce the rule strictly.
📋 Risks Involved
Fine up to €2.000 depending on the situation.
Immediate seizure of equipment if you're stopped by police.
Cancellation or suspension of driving licence (for drivers already holding a car or motorcycle licence).
📋 In Practice
In Germany, it's best to avoid any attempt at urban riding. The country is awaiting a reform of the micromobility law, but nothing has been enacted yet.
💡 Evo-Spirit Tip: keep your skateboard in the boot if you're travelling through the country, or save it for a session at a private spot.
